So, I woke up early this morning and headed out the door to the East Vancouver Farmer's Market at Trout Lake. I had one thing on the brain ~ Milan's Tomatoes. Apparently, so did half of Vancouver. Trout Lake has a no-sales-before-nine policy and the line~up at Stoney Paradise was two dozen deep at 8:45 when I arrived. Well worth it though, I came away with a big bag of the stripey green tomatoes. Free to concentrate on the other vendors, I wandered from stall to stall, purchasing as I went. I staggered home with three bags full of veggies, some of which went into my breakfast frittata.

I wish I could find some squash blossoms. I have seen a couple of recipes for them and I believe I saw a food network special where they fried them. I have never had them and wonder what they taste like. Have a good weekend
golly! nice haul. I am such a fool and have never gone out to the market at TL - I just wander around the one up in Whistler and that is getting a little too arts and crafty, loosing its food stalls - if you can believe it. It used to be fantastic. Seeing your buys though...I must go next weekend. Especially after seeing such great tomatoes!
cheers
Michelle, squash blossoms are very mild and generally taste like whatever you stuff them with. I am thinking I would like to try sauteeing them some time ~ maybe get a better sense of their individual flavour.
Jen, you really should check out Trout Lake. It is open 9-2, but I aim to get there early before all the good stuff is gone.
I need to find a new farmers market, your stuff looks great. I am hoping to make it to the market this weekend to see what I can find. Here's to hopin. Can't wait to see what masterpieces you make out of this.
What a great haul!
I don't get out to that market nearly often enough, sadly. Hmmm! Maybe this weekend...
